Success at Blue Valley

“The 24 August 2008 proved to be an extremely successful day for Thanaa fund-raising bid. The golf day began at 9:00am where golfers paid registration, had complimentary drinks and then headed off to the putting greens and driving range to get their game into gear before the 1st tee off at 10:44am.

The day saw 110 golfers participate in the individual format competition. Top 10 were treated to prizes and there were also prizes for the longest drive and closest to the pin. Prizes ranged from an Advanced driving course sponsored by VW Lindsay Saker Germiston to Honey watches and a brand new Jeep Cherokee for a period of time sponsored by Chrysler South Africa.

Having played the course as well, I share the sentiment that even though the day was all about fund-raising all the golfers had a fun filled day as well as some extremely good golf being played. The winner George Hayward who scored 44 points took first prize winning the Advanced drivers course and Abdullah Mia won the longest drive winning the ALL NEW JEEP CHEROKEE for 15 days for a drive that was 340 meters on the par 5 18th.

At 4:30pm guest started arriving for the prize giving and dinner function. We were extremely fortunate to have Thanaa’s most influential people attend and they were Estelle Roberts(Speech Therapist), Shameem Ebrahim(Audiologist), Wendy Deverson(Audiologist) & Kerry dos Santos (Teacher). Unfortunately Dr Maurice Hockman (Surgeon) was UN able to attend but called me to say that he was thinking about us and that he was wearing Thanaa golf shirt.

I guess the important part to all reading is, have we met our target? Yes indeed the funds have been raised and Thanaa will be under going her 2nd cochlear implant operation on the 6 OCTOBER 2006 at the LINKSFIELD CLINIC in Johannesburg. We have already had our first two consults with Dr Hockman and all is on track for the operation.

I would like to thank our celebrities Rakesh Ramdhin & Althaaf Suliaman (LOTUS FM jocks) for coming all the way from Durban to support this day. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all those who attended the Golf day in Durban as well as JHB.
